My Entry Plan

  • Purpose: Build trust, gain insight into national, regional, and local dynamics, and establish a holistic understanding of Kaiser Permanente’s Thriving Schools impact across markets.

    Key Actions:

    • Conduct cross-functional listening sessions with Thriving Schools market directors, local market leads, health plan partners, and community-based collaborators to understand existing priorities, successes, and needs.

    • Engage with KP stakeholders across national, regional, and local teams to understand how Thriving Schools integrates with organizational goals for population health, mental wellness, and equity.

    • Meet with external partners such as school districts, county offices of education, and public health agencies, to learn how KP’s wellness strategies are being implemented in diverse contexts.

    • Review data and reports on attendance, staff wellness, and student engagement to identify common themes, trends, and regional variations.

    • Familiarize with key frameworks and resources, including:

      • The Thriving Schools Integrated Assessment (TSIA)

      • Resilience in School Environments (RISE) framework

      • Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model

      • KP’s National Health Equity Strategic Plan

    • Observe and attend team meetings across departments (e.g., Community Health, Workforce Well-Being, Marketing & Communications) to develop a systems-level understanding of Thriving Schools’ influence.

    • Develop a “voice of the field” summary report highlighting key learnings from listening sessions, with themes in strengths, opportunities, and alignment areas across regions.

  • Purpose: Build synergy among internal and external partners, align goals to population health outcomes, and co-design scalable solutions that advance equitable wellness access.

    Key Actions:

    • Co-develop measurable health, engagement, and equity goals with Thriving Schools regional teams to ensure alignment with KP’s national health strategy and market-specific needs.

    • Map assets and partnerships across Kaiser markets, identifying strengths and gaps in community collaboration, school system engagement, and cross-sector alignment.

    • Convene a National Thriving Schools Leadership Roundtable to facilitate shared learning, innovation exchange, and regional storytelling.

    • Collaborate with internal KP teams (e.g., Community Health, Government Relations, and Public Affairs) to align Thriving Schools initiatives with broader social health priorities.

    • Develop an Equity & Access Action Plan connecting population health strategies with culturally responsive practices in education and community engagement.

    • Identify opportunities to integrate RISE and WSCC models into regional professional learning for school and district partners.

      • Mental health and trauma-informed care

      • Physical activity and nutrition

      • Staff and educator wellness

      • Chronic absenteeism and student belonging

    • Design a Thriving Schools communication toolkit to ensure consistent storytelling, branding, and sharing of impact narratives across markets.
